An awards programme designed to improve standards in meetings Wi-Fi provision has recognised Croke Park Meetings & Events for recent investment.

Founded by industry association INCON, a coalition of event management companies and professional conference organisers, the 2016 Global Digital Infrastructure Award was presented to Austria Center Vienna, with Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands hotel and Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre as runners-up. A 2015 revamp of all Wi-Fi facilities and digital signage at Dublin sporting venue Croke Park was given a special mention by judges.

Roslyn McLeod, co-chair of INCON, said: “This award is important because Wi-Fi was failing in so many centres. We wanted to create a benchmark for a better standard of provision among centres. I am really surprised at how many venues are saying they will invest and they will enter this award next year. It has really developed an awareness which is excellent.

“Most have it (infrastructure) already but do not know how to set it up, so this is all about making them aware.”
