The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) will more than double its number of international association conferences in 2016, following a 30 per cent increase in its sales team.

The centre will host 16 conferences this year, including the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries conference and Association of Insurance & Risk managers (Airmic) conference worth a combined £6m, up from seven conferences in 2015.

The confirmed conferences are expected to bring in more than £48 million to the economy.

Marshall Dallas, EICC’s chief executive, said: “The sales and marketing team has been nothing short of prolific over the last twelve months, including their role in securing the contract wins we’re announcing today."

Along with the increased staff numbers, Dallas said a more collaborative approach with city and Scottish partners, as well as a simplified booking process, had helped lead to the number of key wins.

Airmic confirmed a two year deal for their June 2020 and June 2024 conferences, while other wins for 2016 include the Pensions, Risk and Investment Conference.

The EICC also said the number of events in 2015 increased by 40 per cent and the venue recorded an increase of 46 per cent of enquiry levels in the same period.
