The Event Marketing Association (EMA), the industry group for in-house planners, says it expects membership to take off in Scotland, following its launch event this week.

The newly-formed EMA Scotland welcomed 20 corporate planners from companies such as Heineken, RBS, LOGICnow, Lloyds Banking Group, Burness Paull and Davidson Chalmers at Edinburgh's Royal College of Surgeons. A welcome reception was followed by a workshop where the group's vision was discussed.

The association says it plans to organise bi-monthly events in Edinburgh, Glasgow and potentially Aberdeen, on a rotational-basis. It will showcase venues and expose members to new trends and innovations in the industry, by inviting speakers, trainers and professionals to share best practice.

EMA chair Richard Waddington said: "We certainly see membership growing quite quickly and we currently have a database of around 45. We know this can grow. Out of the invited group, many were unfortunately unable to attend due to work, but keen to learn more; of those who accepted, everyone attended – which is a first, so well done Scotland, you’ve set the benchmark for the future."
