The Trailblazers Industry Advisory Board says it is on track to introduce an events industry apprenticeship scheme this year.

The group, made up of senior agency heads, recruitment specialists and industry associations, says it will include its proposals in a government submission which it hopes to have signed off this autumn.

At a meeting this week, the board members discussed how best to assess apprentices as part of the scheme; including the frequency of assessment and what quality assurances could be put in place.

Mark Riches, Trailblazers Industry Advisory Board chair, said: “We’re now in a position where we have an accepted standard for apprentices, developed by the events industry.

“We had a room full of senior event professionals with a clear idea on the core skills they need from employees. During the meeting we were able to clearly define how it will be delivered and assessed, and we’re confident event companies will be in a position to take on apprentices in 2016.”

Details of the final skills and assessment criteria will be announced in the coming weeks.

Jason Holt, chairman of the Apprenticeship Stakeholder Board, and CEO of Holts Group, underlined the importance of apprenticeships, commenting: “This isn’t about CSR, this is about creating a talent pipeline.”
