Operators say contractors working 'around the clock' to repair The Address Downtown Hotel

The Address Downtown Hotel was engulfed with flames on New Year's Eve

Operators behind the five-star Dubai hotel that was engulfed in flames on New Year's Eve have promised it will reopen in record time.

Emaar Properties has said it would expedite the clearing, assessment and restoration work of the burnt-out Address Downtown Hotel, after flames tore through the building at about 9.30pm local time.

A date for its reopening is yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, authorities are still working to find out what caused the blaze in the 63-storey hotel, which caused injuries to 16 people.

The fire is thought to have started on the 20th floor, and took four fire crews more than 20 hours to extinguish.

The Address Downtown Hotel is near the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building.
