A life-size passenger plane was a major feature when George P. Johnson created Innovation City for client GSMA, as part of this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC).

The client, a mobile operator representative, decided to showcase how communication will transform the design and build of cities in the future, with the plane signifying how mobile products are changing the way we travel.

GPJ designed and built the 2,000 sqm Innovation City exhibition space, which was visited by more than one-third of MWC attendees from 22-25 February. Innovation City also featured the latest in connected car technology, a virtual shopping mall with mobile payment and connected cattle.

Matt Watts, GPJ creative lead, said: “We paralleled the innovation process of the digital world in our design focusing on using elements of open architecture and lean user experience. This led us to create an environment that moved-away from single exhibitor zones to a connected and collaborative flow."

Innovation City was used by CNN, BBC and other European news channels to broadcast from.
