Construction work has begun on the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC),

Stirling-based contractor Robertson Group has been appointed to prepare the site and all ground and infrastructure work in addition to building the conference centre and one of three on-site hotels. The centre is due to open in 2018 at a cost of £333 million and will replace the current AECC, which is 30 years old, and is expected to generate an additional £113 million of visitor spend for the local economy.

The new AECC is a joint project between Aberdeen City Council and Henry Boot Developments.
Henry Boot director Nick Harris said: “We understand how important the new world-class Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre is to the economy in Aberdeen and the North East and are pleased to be appointing Robertson Group which has close historical and current links to the area.”
