The parent company of London and Birmingham-based cievents has expanded into Hong Kong with the acquisition of an event management and production agency.

Flight Centre Travel Group (FLT), which owns the cievents event management brand, with offices in the UK, Australia, the USA, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa, has added the business assets of Hong Kong-based Maya Events to its Greater China operation.

FLT Hong Kong managing director David Fraser said the acquisition would add scale to the company’s existing cievents operation and complement locally-offered services. Maya Events delivers a full range of events from conferences to product launches for corporate, governmental and not-for-profit sectors.

Further expansion is planned this year, with a Singapore office due to open.

Natalie Simmons, cievents global general manager, said: “Maya gives cievents a stronger presence in an important market and also a platform for further growth in Asia.

“As a full service agency for the corporate market providing specialised services in logistics and creative services the Maya acquisition is an important step in our growth strategy ensuring we are delivering on our client value proposition in all markets in which we operate.

Maya’s management team and seven employees will transfer to FLT’s Hong Kong business.

Lucy Francis, general manager of the cievents base in New Malden added: "We’re delighted to have Maya Events join the cievents family, it widens our offering from the UK and we’ve already used the Hong Kong production arm to benefit our clients here.  They have the necessary production knowledge on the ground over there and know exactly where to go to assist us in accomplishing our clients goals to a very high standard."
