Hyatt reveals data breach fear

Investigation after malware was discovered on hotel group's payment systems

Hyatt Hotels is investigating its cyber security after malware software was discovered on its payment systems.

The malware was found on computers that operate payment processing for Hyatt-managed properties, and the group - which has 627 hotels in 52 countries - has urged customers to review payment records and statements.

Chuck Floyd, Hyatt Hotels global president of operations, said: “As soon as we discovered the activity, we launched an investigation and engaged leading third-party cyber security experts.

“We have taken steps to strengthen the security of our systems, and customers can feel confident using payment cards at Hyatt hotels worldwide.”

Hyatt’s announcement comes a month after Starwood revealed 54 hotels in North America were infected by malware, which enabled unauthorised parties to access customers’ payment card data, some for up to seven months.
