IMEX America outstrips its older sister with 5 per cent growth

Las Vegas show overshadows Frankfurt as delegates swarm to US

The largest ever IMEX America outgrew its older sibling Frankfurt show after just six years when it opened in Las Vegas yesterday. 

More than 3,250 exhibiting companies from 139 countries gathered at the Sands Expo and Convention Center at The Venetian Hotel complex, 4.8 per cent increase on 2015. Among these, 69 were new exhibitors with major growth also from previous exhibitors.

The USA section led the expansion with a 14 per cent increase in space while the Asia Pacific area has grown by 7 per cent.  First time exhibitors include Taiwan, Slovenia Tourist Board, Visit Flanders, Destination Michigan, Albuquerque CVB, Global Gifting, Boomset and glh hotels. 

Among those who have taken larger stands are Tourism New Zealand, Thailand CEB, Carnival Cruises Lines, NYC & Company, Panama Tourist Authority, Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Omni Hotels & Resorts.

There are 269 education sessions scheduled alongside the exhibition, including a new Senior Planner Open Forum, and a record 86 per cent of sessions are now assigned with CES for CMP certification. 
Meetology Lab CEO Jon Bradshaw opened the MPI keynote session on Monday and with 66 sessions arranged by MPI, there was a significant level of education content to attract buyers to the show.

IMEX America has established itself as the catalyst that brings together clusters of events in Las Vegas including the Site Young Leaders Conference, the CIC Hall of Leaders & Pacesetter Awards, and the MPI Foundation Rendezvous.

Ray Bloom, chairman of the IMEX Group said: “We have brought the global industry together here to do business, to update their knowledge of industry developments and to make new contacts.
