Increased delegate numbers drives Marcus Evans profits

Conference organiser's profit almost triples to reach £3.2m as global economic conditions improve

Increased customer numbers helped Marcus Evans Ltd almost triple its profits in 2013, from £1.2 million in 2012 to £3.2m.

Turnover for the conference-planning arm of the global firm for the year ending 30 September 2013 was £10.1m, up 16.8 per cent on the previous year's total of £8.6m.

According to accounts filed with Companies House, the firm, which runs more than 1,000 events a year around the world, saw shareholders' funds rise by £3.2m to £14.2m.

The director's report read: "Turnover has increased by 16.8 per cent due to an improvement in the global economic conditions and recovery from the recessionary market experienced in 2012, leading to increased customer numbers and sales during the year."

It added that the gross profit margin rose from 46.3 per cent to 54.7 per cent.
