Industry colleagues gear up for Howard's Way Walk

22/06/2012

Walkers from the events industry are getting ready to take part in the fifth Howard’s Way Walk in memory of colleague Howard Kerr.

This year the walk - which takes place 6-8 July - will cover a 102-mile stretch of The Cotswold Way, starting from Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire and ending in Bath. The annual walk is inspired by freelance logistics manager Howard Kerr, who lost his life in 2008 to pancreatic cancer.

Kerr’s brother-in-law Nick Grecian, managing director of events crewing firm Gallowglass, has planned the route. He said: “Last year was our toughest challenge ever, and this year we are upping the ante again, aiming to complete the walk in only three days. We’ll do about 40 miles on day one and split the balance over the subsequent days.

“Over the last four years the Howard’s Way Walk and related fundraising activities have raised nearly £250,000, which has funded a PHD Studentship Award for a researcher at Barts Hospital’s Institute of Cancer. They really seem to be making progress in funding ways for earlier diagnosis of this insidious disease.”

Among this year’s participants are Andrew Dixie, sales manager, Land Rover; Simon Wood, operations director GL Owen Brown; Adrian Parsons, technical director, TSG and Laura Moody, managing director, Blondefish.

Full details about the Howard’s Way Walk 2012 can be found on the Howard's Way blog.
