US boutique hotel chain Kimpton is expanding into Europe as it looks forward to a “historic” year.

The brand has 18 new hotels set to open over the next 12 months, including its first outside of the Americas in Amsterdam.

Senior vice president sales Christine Lawson said: “The growth of the brand is very exciting - 18 hotels in the pipeline is historic for us in terms of volume.

“Meetings and events is a huge part of the business, 25 per cent of our annual revenue is driven through meetings and events. It is a huge focal point and continues to be an area that we focus on to grow. We are on a significant growth projection and the Amsterdam hotel is a great opportunity for the Kimpton brand."

Kimpton is set to transform the Crowne Plaza Amsterdam City Centre into a 270-room luxury boutique property aimed at both the business and leisure markets.

Lawson also said that Kimpton had not suffered any immediate impact following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union and its subsequent economic effects.

"It is too early to know what the effects will be. The UK market is a very important market and we continue to see great potential from a meetings and events perspective.

“We have not seen any effects yet, our business continues to be very healthy. I think it is too soon to tell.”
