ACC Liverpool has hailed the Labour party conference as its largest conference to date, estimating its economic worth at £17 million.

The event opened with the re-election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader in the Exhibition Centre Liverpool on the weekend, and finished five days later with a keynote address from the embattled leader. The conference went ahead without disruption despite a last minute scramble for security, after cancelling its contract with provider G4S.

Around 12,000 delegates, including 2,000 international media, attended the conference, which took place across ACC Liverpool’s campus which includes BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena as well as the exhibition centre. The adjoining hotel, Pullman Liverpool, operated as the headquarters hotel for the conference.

One of the exhibition centre halls was transformed into a 2,500 seat auditorium for a series of plenary sessions, including the leader’s speech on the final day of the conference. A 150-stand exhibition took place in the other two halls, while around 300 fringe meetings were held in the convention centre.

Bob Prattey, chief executive of The ACC Liverpool Group, said: “Once again we are pleased to have hosted a successful Labour Party annual conference.

“The global coverage Liverpool received over the five days was phenomenal and provided an opportunity for us to showcase our magnificent venue, city and world-class waterfront.

“We look forward to welcoming the Labour Party back again for conference in 2018.”

ACC Liverpool worked closely with Merseyside Police, Liverpool Convention Bureau and Liverpool City Council to co-ordinate the preparation of the event. It was ACC Liverpool’s biggest conference since opening in 2008 and generated £17m in economic benefit to the city region.

Operators say the waterfront is ideally located for high-security events of this nature, due to it being surrounded by water on three sides which creates a secure campus site and enables it to lockdown quickly and efficiently.

Forthcoming highlights include RenewableUK, the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association and the World Conference on Lung Health.
