The Leading Hotels of the World has redesigned its hotel directory after 15 years, having considered scrapping the traditional publication.
President and CEO of the marketing consortium for luxury hotels, Ted Teng, said: “When we were looking at the directory we said ‘is it still relevant?’. Information has moved towards the website so, in order to be relevant, we decided the directory needed to be more inspirational. We needed beautiful images and better text so people can get inspired to travel.”
He added that they decided to focus on the many fascinating stories behind some of the 430 properties currently represented. “There’s something about our hotels that’s different from the chain hotels; it’s the multi-generational families that have owned and operated the hotels from generation to generation.”
The directory features the histories of 23 hotel-owning families, including the Gambardella family, which has owned the Hotel Santa Caterina on the Amalfi Coast since 1880 and the Krachts, who launched the Baur au Lac in Zurich in 1844.
