The purple team have taken the lead as agencies enter day two of the annual M&IT Agency Challenge.

More than 50 event organisers and dozens of suppliers have come together at The Lensbury in Teddington, competing in a number of activities and taking part in educational sessions that include one-on-one meetings and interactive presentations.

Japan National Tourist Office and destination management company the J Team were among the highlights, giving participants a lesson in traditional drumming. The group then enjoyed a cocktail reception on the lawn of the hotel followed by dinner inside while being serenaded by the Wandering Hands, a roaming trio of musicians who brought the evening to a close with a rendition of Wheatus' Teenage Dirtbag.

Rachael Rafferty, of Planet Pursuits, said: "It's been really good. This is my first M&IT Agency Challenge and it's great because you get to mix with other people in the industry that you wouldn't necessarily have mixed with. It's quite informal too which is good. It's not that kind of stuffy, business meeting. It's a lot of fun."

Georges Combe, from Silversea Cruises, added: "It's been fun. I feel very involved in what's on and the way the programme is set with meetings at the end of the activities is brilliant because you get to know people well enough before you talk business with them. I think that's key."

The participants are taking part in the Earth ball challenge, kayaking activities and a video task, interspersed with presentations from destinations and suppliers such as Very Chantilly, the Jockey Club and Dubai Business Events. Points are awarded to each team from quiz questions after each presentation, along with the challenges.
