M-is, the strategy, marketing, comms and events agency, is undertaking its third significant piece of work for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2018.

The Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference, taking place on October 11-12, aims to generate worldwide awareness of issues surrounding the illegal trade in animals, a market which has doubled since 2007 and is worth approximately £17 billion annually.

M-is will be producing the UK government hosted event, looking after the creative, design and build, event management services as well as the media infrastructure required to support it.

Various heads of state and VIPs will be in attendance. The Duke of Cambridge will give the keynote speech and he will also join an evening reception with the Duke of Sussex, at St James’ Palace to officially open the conference.

Robert Alge, head of events at M-is is told M&IT: “The Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference takes place at Battersea Evolution where an empty venue has been turned into a series of bespoke spaces catering for 65 worldwide delegations and hundreds of industry stakeholders and international media, through the creation of three flexible presentation theatres, bilateral meeting rooms, lounges and a series of exhibition areas which feature sculptures and photography from renowned artists.

"Each of the two days has a packed schedule and with just two days for the installation, there is no room for error or delay.

"The event has shades of the previous event that M-is produced in April for the foreign and commonwealth office – the Biannual Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. For that meeting, over 900 staff and crew prepared for the visit of 53 world leaders across 8 locations.

"The Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference presents many of the same challenges, albeit on a smaller scale.”

M-is is well-known for its successful delivery of high-level government projects. It has government clients globally, across events and communications.
