Next year’s European Meetings & Events Conference (EMEC) will travel to Spain after Granada was revealed as the 2017 host.

The Andalucía city was confirmed as the host of Meeting Professional International’s (MPI) annual European gathering, during the closing session of this year’s EMEC in Copenhagen.

Phil Cross, president-elect of the MPI Spain Chapter and head of corporate sales at Centre Conventions International Barcelona, said: “We are taking the baton and will run with it. We promise to try as best we can to make 2017 as good if not better than 2016.”

"Granada is an icon of beauty and acceptability, bringing in different religions and communities. MPI is all about community and is also one of the most diverse communities or meeting professionals in Europe.

“We live in troubled and changing times and we see this on a daily basis. EMEC, for us, is a beacon of what we can do together.”

This year’s EMEC has been themed around the Danish Meetovation meeting design philosophy, and Cross said Granada will be borrowing some of the Meetovation concepts, but would tweak ‘Brain Food’ to ‘Spain Food’.

MPI president Paul van Deventer told delegates: “We took a risk (in adopting Meetovation) and the feedback is that some people loved it and some didn’t. But we took that risk for you all and I hope you have liked some of the concepts.”
