Manchester Central wins safety accreditation in industry first

Convention centre becomes the first UK conference and events venue to achieve OHSAS 18001

Manchester Central has become the first major UK conference and events venue to achieve the British standard for occupational health and safety management.

The convention centre has received the OHSAS 18001, demonstrating it operates four internationally recognised management systems which ensure consistent delivery of a safe and quality service. It comes after the venue introduced a number of initiatives including easy-to-use guidance and inductions on how the venue works with organisers to ensure events meet regulations.

Angie Robinson, chief executive of Manchester Central, said: “Health and safety is a top priority at Manchester Central and gaining OHSAS 18001 perfectly demonstrates this. Achieving the certification guarantees a safe business environment for the venue’s visitors, organisers and exhibitors and ensures the best possible working conditions for our employees."

Manchester Central also holds the international standard for sustainable event management (ISO 20121) since 2013 and the international standard for environmental management (ISO 14001) and quality management (ISO 9001) in 2015.
