Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London has revealed plans for a multi-million pound renovation - its first in 16 years.

The five-star property, overlooking Hyde Park, will remain open as it carries out the refurbishments in two parts, with the first beginning 19 September.

Mandarin Oriental director of sales and marketing Jill O'Hare announced the plans to event professionals attending an Event Marketing Association (EMA) educational session last night, who were given a preview of hotel renderings.

O'Hare said that the project was being undertaken to "enhance Mandarin Oriental’s well-established position as one of London’s leading luxury hotels, and to ensure it is positioned as one of the world’s leading legendary hotels".

She said the inspiration for the new interior design was the 'golden age of travel'.

All bedrooms and suites are being refurbished, and an exclusive Mandarin Oriental Spa Studio concept will be added,in addition to two penthouses onto the ninth floor. The penthouses will offer unobstructed views of Hyde Park thanks to floor to ceiling glazing.

Refurbishments will also cover the meeting and events facilities, with 'enhancements' to the ballroom and other meeting spaces.

The full project is expected to take 20 months.
