Marketing Edinburgh has announced a significant boost in its membership with the addition of the five star Gleneagles Hotel.

A raft of new clients at Edinburgh’s destination marketing organisation includes Gleneagles, the first member to join from outside the Edinburgh region, reflecting a growing diversity in the membership profile.

Hillary Bett, head of membership services at Marketing Edinburgh, said: “We are thrilled to have Gleneagles join us as our first official Perthshire member. While our Edinburgh-based membership is obviously hugely important, as the gateway to Scotland, venues outside the city are also beginning to realise that they too can benefit from a closer working relationship with Marketing Edinburgh.”

With more than 220 businesses now in membership, other recent organisations to join include a second out-of-city venue, Kinross House Estate, as well as a number of restaurants, bars and shops such as Kyloe, Jeffrey Street Whisky, Foundry 39 bar and The East India Company. Edinburgh’s new Courtyard by Marriott has also confirmed it will be joining Marketing Edinburgh when it opens its doors later this month.

Bett added: “The rise in new members from sectors such as food and drink, also reflect the changing dynamic of Marketing Edinburgh’s membership. The success of Edinburgh Rewards, a unique programme of exclusive offers available to delegates, for example, has been incredibly popular with the city’s restaurant and bars, encouraging visitors attending conferences and meetings to get out and explore all Edinburgh has to offer.”

Val Eglinton, director of sales at Gleneagles, said: “Gleneagles is thrilled to join Marketing Edinburgh as its first partner from out with the Edinburgh and Lothians region. Our ongoing refurbishment programme is creating vibrant and dynamic meeting areas, making now the perfect time for Gleneagles to partner with Marketing Edinburgh.”

The most popular UK city for international association meetings outside London, 2014-15 was Convention Edinburgh’s most successful year on record. It confirmed 206 new future events for Edinburgh, which will be attended by more than 74,000 delegates and generate £94.3m for the local economy - an increase of almost 10,000 delegates and £3m in economic impact on last year’s results.
