Hundreds of industry leaders across the world are expected to take part in the first Global Meetings Industry Day this Thursday, 14 April.

The campaign from the Convention Industry Council and Meetings Mean Business Coalition aims to showcase the importance of the industry in delivering profits and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, and meeting and event industry associations are being urged to hold events in destinations across the world.

The official launch for Events are GREAT Britain is one such event, and will take place at Stamford Bridge in front of an audience of major industry associations, stakeholders and representatives from UK's major destinations. The UK & Ireland chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) will also hold its MPI Connects, an event that matches industry employers with talented jobseekers, at the University of Greenwich.

Michael Gehrisch, president and CEO, Destination Marketing Association International, said: “It’s imperative to invest our time and money in meetings. Our destinations and convention and visitors bureaux around the world rely on meetings to fuel the economy in the sense of jobs and bringing people together to collaborate on services and products.”
