Melbourne has won four major incentive trips worth AUD$50 million (£27m), as the convention bureau revealed it is on track to finish its strongest incentive year.

Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) CEO Karen Bolinger said targets had been comfortably surpassed.

“We have achieved a 42 per cent increase in incentive travel business secured on last financial year, and the year isn’t even over yet,” she said.

It comes as the Australian city announced more than 9,500 delegates will arrive in four incentive trips over the next two years, including 6,000 delegates from Perfect China, who will visit in 2017. Other incentive wins include China Life Insurance (2016) and Taiwan Life Insurance (2016), bringing a combined $17m (£9.2m) and AIA Hong Kong Insurance (2018).

Meanwhile, MCB has also won what is expected to be the largest ever chemical congress in Australia, the 17th Asian Chemical Congress, which will bring 1,200 delegates over three days and deliver $6.2 million (£3.4m) in economic impact.

Bolinger said: “Securing this meeting is a major coup for Melbourne and Victoria and provides great recognition of our expert chemistry sector.

“Melbourne’s thriving chemistry community makes it the ideal city to advance the science and practice of chemistry.”
