Montreal has honoured its 18 ambassadors in a Recognition Award Gala, after the group helped bring $85 million (£46m) worth of international conferences to the city.

The Palais des congrès de Montréal says the group helped secure 12 international conventions, resulting in about 30,000 business tourists.

The forthcoming events include International Congress on Personalised Health Care, taking place in June this year, and the World Stroke Congress, to be held in October 2018.

Raymond Larivée, President and CEO of the Palais des congrès said: "Montréal has been hosting more international events than any other city in the Americas for the last four years. As for the international conventions held at the Palais, these are primarily due to the efforts of our Ambassadors in promoting our city to major international associations."

Since 1985, the members of the Ambassadors Club have helped attract almost 230 large events to Montréal, which have contributed almost $1 billion (£537m) to the city’s and province’s economy.
