The new EVCOM board has met for the first time to discuss the effects of Brexit and future plans for the association.

At the meeting, the board agreed to hold a specific strategy day in September to discuss Brexit and how EVCOM can best address the industry’s concerns.

Andrew Smith, EVCOM chairman, said, “We have a very clear mandate from members to help them through the changes. But what Brexit is and how it will effect is far from clear. This year we have the most active and passionate board I have been a part of and we need to pool that energy and make plans that actual help each of our members businesses.”

The board also discussed the outcomes of the Senior Leaders Summit, which saw more than 20 agencies and senior communications professionals gather following EVCOM’s AGM on July 11.

Those in attendance at the summit included Ashfield Meetings & Events, BlueHat, Grass Roots, Inntel, Zibrant, drp, Jack Morton and TFI Group.

The purpose of the forum was to discuss key issues affecting the industry, propose strategies for the year ahead and to produce key outputs for the industry and the association.

Andrew Winterburn, vice-chairman of EVCOM, said: “The EVCOM Senior Leaders Summit has developed from previous Senior Advisory Councils and is an inspirational event pulling together leaders from across our sector representing every aspect of the communication industry from clients, agencies, producers to suppliers and freelancers.

“We recognise the value and power of bringing like-minded professionals together and are delighted so many agencies of such high calibre were keen to be involved. As an association we cannot produce effective solutions to the challenges faced within our industry without consultation, collaboration and contribution from such senior leaders as they are the voice of our ever growing membership.

“Yesterday was all about using the information gleaned from this event to help map out our plan of action for the next 12 months and of course to welcome to the board new faces and old.”

The first full meeting of the new board saw existing members joined by the newly elected Scott Horsfield, John Earnshaw of Integro ACJ, Lee Spencer of PRG XL Video, Karim ElMinabawy of Emeco Travel, Rachel Pendered of Media Zoo and the re-elected Rachel Ley of RLC.
