Principal Hayley Group has relaunched two of its properties as part of a £100 million investment programme.

In the first wave of spending, The Royal York in York and The George in Edinburgh have been remodelled and restored, safeguarding original features but also upgrading the properties with an overhaul of all bedrooms, suites, public areas and meeting spaces and the introduction of ‘destination’ restaurants and bars.

The five listed Georgian townhouses and contemporary wing that comprise The George Hotel now boast 240 new-look bedrooms and suites, upgraded event spaces with nine flexible conference suites, such as the grand 315 sqm Kings Hall and the Forth View Suite with private rooftop balcony space.

And at The Royal York, Principal Hayley has added the Garden Room event space, located at the hub of the hotel.

Tony Troy, Principal Hayley Group’s CEO, said: “I am delighted to see these iconic ‘grand dame’ hotels, The Royal York and The George restored to their former glory and given a fresh breath of life as vibrant focal points within the city. These significant restorations mark the beginning of our multi-million pound investment programme across the portfolio, underlining our commitment to be the leading operator of landmark hotels with exciting destination restaurants and bars in key destinations within the UK.”
