Sponsored Content: Re-creation #likeholland

Holland may be small in size but that just means everything is compact, well organised and easily accessible. We like to think big and outside the box, and approach everything with an open mind. It's part of our DNA and it's why we #likeholland

From metropolitan cities to serene beaches. From innovation hubs to UNESCO World Heritage Sites. From modern convention centres to historic meeting venues. No other destination is as colourful #likeholland per sqkm.

Re-creation #likeholland

While the Dutch are known for their innovative mindset, we don’t think it’s necessary to re-invent the wheel. We do, however, like to spin things just a little differently. So instead of saying 'out with the old, in with the new', we much prefer to re-create #likeholland and take a much more sustainable approach.

Green #likeholland

And the Dutch events industry is no exception. The new QO Amsterdam, for example, is setting the standard in responsible hospitality. The hotel has been designed to significantly reduce environmental impact while enhancing guest experience. QO Amsterdam's intuitive living building is one of the most sustainable hotels in Europe.

Hotel Jakarta, the self proclaimed greenest hotel in Holland, is a sustainable green oasis in Amsterdam and part of Dutch WestCord Hotels, who also own the iconic SS Rotterdam and Hotel New York in Rotterdam. The tropical garden located in the atrium of the building has been created in collaboration with Hortus Botanicus. In addition, the hotel co-operates with the Royal Tropical Institute to create a green experience in the literal sense of the word.

As part of Hilton Hotels' 'cut down on plastic' initiative, DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station recently opened the world's first plastic-free hotel room. Everything is made from natural materials or been replaced with creative alternatives. A game of chess instead of watching TV after a day of meetings, anybody?

Transformation #likeholland

The Dutch are also masters at transforming old and potentially doomed buildings into multi-purpose event spaces.

Take Sugar City, for example; a former sugar factory that has been transformed into an events and meetings space. It is one of the most controversial re-developments of industrial heritage in Europe and received the Prix dExcellence of FIABCI International in the category 'Environmental Conservation'.

As the first 100 per cent electric hotel in Holland, Conscious Hotel Westerpark transformed a monumental building into a stunning eco-sexy hotel that strives to be as green, sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. It is conveniently located next to Westergasfabriek, an historic venue turned event space.

Once owned by several noble families, the impressive 13th century Stadskasteel Oudaen (tower house) in the heart of Utrecht nowadays serves as a meeting space where old meets new. Each of the modernised meeting rooms has a unique story, which can best be enjoyed over a post-meeting beer from the in-house brewery.

Inspire #likeholland

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. In Holland, we constantly re-create to keep evolving and innovating, we re-fresh perspectives by stepping off the beaten track, and we re-focus by taking unexpected turns. Just a few ways we inspire #likeholland.
