The International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) has toasted record numbers of entries at its 2016 awards banquet as it announced its new president, Christopher Blandy.

The annual awards show, which takes place at Guildhall, saw the presentation of more than 80 awards last week, with big winners including Masters of Malt, Waitrose and Nyetimber taking trophies for Online Retailer of the Year, Supermarket of the Year and English Wine Producer respectively.

Blandy, CEO and wine maker of Madeira Wine Company, takes over from current president Matteo Lunelli.

IWSC Group CEO Allen Gibbons, said Blandy would inject a "fresh perspective" to the competition.

"We are extremely happy to welcome Chris Blandy on board as President of the IWSC. As an awarding body, it is crucial for us to remain ever changing and innovative to ensure the quality of entries remains high for the competition across the board. Blandy truly is a testament to what the IWSC can do for its entrants and helps us at the IWSC Group expand further into new demographics outside of the competition."

The awards show began with a champagne reception and tasting of the medal winning wines and spirits, before guests sat down to a three-course dinner, the menu of which was designed around the wines served.
