Barry Richards, formerly president of Grass Roots’ American meetings and events division, has joined First Protocol as president of managed services.

Richards oversaw Grass Roots’ start-up and subsequent rapid growth in the US market, from its New York office, and departed earlier this month.

Now First Protocol, which has bases in London, New York, Los Angeles and Singapore, has appointed Richards to drive strategy and growth in the US, while also leading account growth in the UK and overseeing the agency’s managed services.

“I am very excited to help drive First Protocol’s growth trajectory, and in particular to help expand the existing managed services model to offer a range of services that seamlessly integrate into our clients’ event lifecycles and support their changing meetings and event needs,” he said. “As someone who is passionate about delivering exceptional event experiences, I also look forward to joining a team of people who share that vision.”

Richards joins First Protocol after more than a decade with Grass Roots, in which he guided the US meetings and events offer from fledging agency to a listing on the INC. 5,000 fastest-growing privately held companies in America.

“First Protocol believes in providing the very best event delivery, strategy, creative solutions and innovative experiences to companies around the world,” said Maureen Ryan-Fable, CEO Americas at First Protocol. “We have known Barry and worked with him for a number of years and are thrilled to be incorporating his skills and expertise to help us continue to deliver world-class solutions for our clients.”
