Grass Roots Meetings & Events has named David Taylor as MD, following the departure of Des Mclaughlin last month.

Taylor takes up the role with more than 20 years’ industry experience behind him. He has previously been Grass Roots Meetings & Events UK sales director, and more recently held a global business development role integrating group services across parent company WPP’s network.

Mclaughlin left Grass Roots in December to explore new opportunities, two years after he was appointed MD of the newly-formed Grass Roots Meetings and Events. In his time at the helm, profits turned around from a £1.5 million loss in 2013 (largely attributed to restructuring costs) to a £2.2m profit in 2014.

Taylor will be tasked with continuing that growth trajectory. He said: “I am thrilled to be accepting the role of managing director at such an exciting time for Grass Roots. With our rich meetings and events heritage and the strong foundations that have been achieved over the past two years, we are looking forward to further sustained growth and continuing to strengthen Grass Roots as one of the world’s leading meetings and events agencies.”

Richard Bandell, who arrived as Grass Roots Group CEO in the same restructure that created the Meetings & Events entity in 2013, saluted Taylor’s leadership skills.

He added: “We have an amazing international client base and we intend to continue developing our ability to add value in every aspect of their meetings and events requirements. David will provide the leadership to enable us to fulfil our well-established strategy for a global, integrated meetings and events business.”
