The Event Business trains new management team after profit passes £2m

Three members of staff are undergoing management training in order to 'future proof' the business

The Event Business posted pre-tax profit of £2.2 million for the year ended 31 March 2015

Oxfordshire–based The Event Business has recorded a £1 million profit uplift, and is planning for future growth by creating a new management team.

Growth and long-term security in existing accounts from large clients such as Jaguar Land Rover, and wins including Michelin, have driven a financial performance that saw The Event Business post a pre-tax profit of £2.2m, on turnover of £13.3m in accounts filed for the year ended 31 March 2015.

The accompanying director’s report said: “The performance during 2014 has produced encouraging results and this has been as a result of increased activity in the sector.”

MD Janet Walkden added that a new management structure would help ‘future proof’ the business, while further account growth this year means figures will be ‘similar’ for the next financial year end.

Currently, account director (international) Charlotte Greaves, account director Gary Davies and project manager Ben Milton are being coached and mentored in the management of the company so they can form a new management team when Walkden and director Simon Webber decide to hand over.

Walkden said: “In order to future proof the business, we are introducing a new management team; three of our existing staff are undertaking a management training programme to bring them up to speed. Simon and I are still very much involved.”

Staff numbers have risen to 15 in the last 12 months, while the company is also on the lookout for new project managers in the New Year, as it looks to diversify into new sectors while retaining an expertise in automotive clients.

“It is a really exciting time,” Walkden added. “For a small agency we are pretty efficient. Everyone works hard and knows what they are doing.”
