Toulouse wants to double its meetings and incentive business in four years with the development of its planned convention centre, due to open in 2020, and the launch of an Ambassador Circle.

The South of France destination is actively targeting the UK market, officially unveiling its new-look convention bureau So Toulouse in London and announcing a new Easyjet flight link between Toulouse and Luton. The push comes as Toulouse prepares to host the EuroScience Open Forum 2018, a major biennial event currently taking place in Manchester.

A group of event organisers and tourism professionals heard Toulouse's plans during the launch at the French ambassador's residence in Kensington last night.

So Toulouse business event manager Roxane Nominé said: "We'll be able to welcome larger conferences once the exhibition centre is built. It will be a new facility positioned very closely to the airport but also close to existing production sites to aeronautical production industry. We will have a large hotel offer and it will also allow the city to service the wider sectors."

The 100,000 sqm convention centre will be part of the new exhibition complex managed by GL Events.

So Toulouse MD Hubert Calmettes added: "We're going to launch an Ambassador Circle in October to the worldwide network of So Toulouse. We know these people are the best ambassadors of Toulouse and the best advertising campaign."
