Conference and event venue provider etc.venues is using virtual reality (VR) to show clients around its new venue - before it’s even been built.

Through the use of VR headsets, etc.venues is showcasing its latest event space in London’s County Hall, the former headquarters of the Greater London Council.

Margaretha Welsford, director of sales at etc.venues, said: “Although walking around a construction site and looking at CGI images can help build an impression of what kind of space is being created, we’ve found that VR technology provides a much clearer interpretation of the end product.

“It was a massive draw at both the Venues & Events Show in London and at the IACC Europe Knowledge Festival in the Netherlands – through the use of the headsets, clients experienced the venue without leaving their seats.”

The VR tour transports clients through the venue to see restored original parquet flooring, exposed brick work and views of Westminster and the Houses of Parliament from the Thames Suite window. Clients attending onsite tours will be offered an opportunity to experience the space using virtual reality headsets, which they will be given to take away.

Opening in January 2017, the new venue is made up of 4,000 sqm of event space across 20 rooms on a single floor of the building. This includes The Thames and County Suites which are made up of 1,400 sqm of connecting space.
