VisitDenmark centralises to focus on big Euro trade fairs

Funding cuts and strategy changes blamed for changes, with bureau saying it will attend major meeting fairs

VisitDenmark is closing its UK business events operation due to funding cuts, saying it will now only attend "big European meeting fairs".

In a letter emailed out to partners, Business Events Denmark's UK marketing director Dennis Englund said the bureau will end all active presence in overseas markets as part of "substantial changes" to VisitDenmark.

Englund said: “New technologies and social media have caused a profound change in consumer behaviour and in order to embrace future global trends, VisitDenmark has been through a thorough strategy process during which we have decided to re-focus our resources.

“As a consequence of that, and in the light of a reduction in our general funding, we have decided to close down all active presence in our markets within business events and only be present at the big European meeting fairs – IMEX, IBTM and The Meetings Show.” 

Englund said VisitDenmark (Business Events Denmark) would continue to operate in the meetings and event sector, but only through a central team in Copenhagen with a focus on online activities.

VisitDenmark's UK office will no longer handle meetings and events requests locally, with the bureau urging enquiries to be directed to or to Wonderful Copenhagen CVB (Copenhagen Convention Bureau)

UK meeting sales manager Ines Lebaek will continue to work for VisitDenmark until 1 December.
