NEC unveils details of extensive £4.5m transformation


The NEC has unveiled details of its extensive £4.5m transformation. The first phase of this three-year project – the exterior of Halls 1 and 5 – began in June and is set to be completed in late August.The NEC campus now attracts over seven million visitors annually to the NEC, Genting Arena, Vox conference centre and Resorts World Birmingham. This number is set to grow as the site’s first permanent attraction – The Bear Grylls Adventure – opens this autumn.
 

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre expansion now open


The 20,000 sqm expansion of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has officially opened, making it Australia’s largest convention and exhibition space. The £114.3m addition increases MCEC to a total size of 70,000 sqm. New facilities include The Goldfields Theatre - a 9,000 sqm multi-purpose event space with a retractable 1,000 seat theatre and new exhibition halls. There are also new meeting rooms, an outdoor terrace, banquet space and the Goldfields Cafe and Bar. The expansion is part of a larger South Wharf expansion project in Melbourne that includes a new 347-room Novotel Melbourne South Wharf that is fully connected and integrated with MCEC.
 

Kempinski Hotel Bahía, Estepona reopens


Following an extensive redesign, Kempinski Hotel Bahía, Estepona has reopened with a new lobby and refreshed culinary hotspots. These dining venues form part of the hotel’s new restaurant concept “El Paseo Del Mar”, which combines three venues all set within the hotel. Spíler Beach Club, situated right on the beach will be a new coastal dining experience for guests of the hotel. The hotel will also welcome guests into the newly renovated lobby and terrace of the hotel where 'Black Rose The Bar' is situated.
 

National Memorial Arboretum to open new £8m space


The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire is set to open Aspects, a new £8 million events building in October 2018. And the venue has also appointed a new business and development executive, Emma Syer (pictured). Aspects will provide a new large flexible events space, with the ability to accommodate theatre style events of up to 500, as well as small intimate meetings, all with views across the Arboretum. The new events space will also have a large banqueting kitchen, capable of catering for banquets of up to 300 people and a new bar area.
 

Al Seef Hotel Jumeirah to open at Dubai Creek


Al Seef Hotel Jumeirah will open in September on the banks of Dubai Creek. The 200-room hotel is spread across 22 traditionally-designed Arabian Bayt (homes), with views down into the alleyways of the souk and out across the busy waterways of the Creek. The 22 homes are located in small clusters of two to three buildings, joined by a bridge that provides a walkway above the souk and sharing a common courtyard, encouraging socialising with other guests within the hotel.The hotel will take bookings from the end of July and welcome guests from September.
 

The Lensbury installs free superfast Wi-Fi


The Lensbury Hotel and Conference Centre has installed the fastest level of broadband available - free to all delegates. The Lensbury now offers a Wi-Fi speed of 25mb per person, which can be adjusted to your usage. With up to 100 per cent coverage, conferences can be held outside in the 25 acres of grounds. The Lensbury is one of a few accredited members of IACC in the UK, as well as being AIM Gold Accredited by mia in recognition of the high standards of delivery of a wide variety of events including outdoor team building.
 

National Museums Liverpool rebrands events business


National Museums Liverpool has rebranded its events business, offering corporate and private venue hire opportunities across the city region. Operating as ‘Hosted by National Museums Liverpool’, the newly-established brand manages a number of venues with capacities of up to 1,000 guests, with settings ideal for events from dinners, conferences and drinks receptions to Christmas parties, weddings and location filming. As the largest cultural organisation in the North West, National Museums Liverpool boasts spaces including Merseyside Maritime Museum and World Museum (home to the Terracotta Warriors exhibition), allowing clientele to host events among internationally-important artworks and fascinating objects. Head of events Katie Roberts said: “Throughout the past five years especially, we have enjoyed increased demand and great success, and we are now in a fantastic position to place this area within the organisation as a venture standing out in its own right.”
