Blue Fin Venue, London


Blue Fin Venue is a new event space on London’s South Bank, next to the Tate Modern. The striking building, managed by Sodexo Prestige, is clad in 2000 aluminium fins and has views across the Thames. The venue has nine meeting rooms accommodating up to 40 people, a lecture theatre for up to 96 guests and a wine tasting room. Other spaces available include a double storey glass reception space, known as the Wintergarden; the landscaped Roof Garden terrace, which can accommodate up to 250 people and the Blue Sky Lounge, which overlooks St Paul’s Cathedral and can host up to150 people.
 

Crowne Plaza Heythrop Park – Oxford


The 197-room Crowne Plaza Heythrop Park – Oxford has opened alongside the existing 18th Century Heythrop Park Hotel. Set in 440 acres of Oxfordshire countryside, the resort offers a championship-standard 18-hole golf course, a contemporary new health club, a choice of four restaurants and bars, and a modern conference centre with circular theatre seating 350. There are an additional 11 meeting rooms and a 450-seat ballroom that can be divided into three self-contained rooms. In total, 350 bedrooms are available for delegates between the two on-site hotels.
 

Priory House Training and Conference Centre, Hull


St John Ambulance has opened a £1m training centre in Hull. Priory House Training and Conference Centre offers seven bright, modern and spacious conference rooms, which can accommodate up to 250 delegates theatre style, and a high-spec board room. Ideally located, close to Hull’s city centre and with ample parking, the centre is the latest addition to Hull & East Yorkshire Conferences’ portfolio of venues. Income generated from the new conference facilities will go directly to help St John Ambulance and its volunteers to provide first aid in the community.
 

Coworth Park, Berkshire


Dorchester Collection has opened Coworth Park, a five-star country house hotel and spa, bordering on Windsor Great Park, near Ascot. The luxury 70 room hotel is set in 240 acres of Royal Berkshire parkland. There are 30 bedrooms and suites in The Mansion House and a further 28 in the renovated stable block. Coworth Park’s cottages include The Dower House, a Grade 2 listed building with three bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, lounge and garden. The hotel has three restaurants headed up by Michelin-starred chef John Campbell, two polo fields, an equestrian centre and an eco-luxury Spa. Guests can also enjoy special access to neighbouring Wentworth Golf Club.
 

The Mount Somerset, Somerset


von Essen has completed its refurbishment of The Mount Somerset, located near Taunton. All public areas and guest rooms have been revamped and a brand new wing has been added to the country house hotel, featuring eight deluxe double bedrooms and bringing the total number of guestrooms to 19. A new spa, set in the grounds of the hotel, has been designed as a traditional bathhouse and offers two exclusive signature treatments that cannot be experienced anywhere else in the world.
 

The Gallivant hotel, East Sussex


The Gallivant hotel has opened in Camber, East Sussex. The hotel, set behind sand dunes on eight miles of beach is a contemporary seaside property with New England style. Just over an hour from London, it offers18 whitewashed bedrooms including four studios with private entrances. The Gallivant caters for corporate gatherings ranging in size from 10 to 100 guests and can arrange events on the beach.
The Beach Bistro at The Gallivant serves modern British food sourced from local farmers and fishermen, while The Beach Café in the Coastal Garden is open during the summer. Double rooms start from £85; studios from £99.
 

firstsite, Colchester


Bookings are now being taken for events at firstsite, the brand new art venue in Colchester, Essex due to open in September 2011. Flexible spaces for functions, receptions and special occasions are available for hire inside the golden-clad building created by architect Rafael Viñoly. Conference facilities centre on a tiered auditorium with 200 seats, supported by a number of linked meeting rooms and boardroom spaces. The extensive reception area is ideal for large product launches and includes a dramatic video/digital curtain at bulkhead level. ‘Smart’ technology includes projection screens, and a presentation compatible Smart Slate system. Video conferencing facilities are standard as are free WiFi, LCD screens and unique access for your guests to the venue’s world class gallery spaces.
 

Scalford Hall


Scalford Hall management training centre in Leicestershire has opened new Xperiential Learning facilities. The range of activities can be used individually or as a course, with more than 30 pieces of equipment and activities to choose from - some as high as 16 metres off the ground - all located in the beautiful landscaped gardens or woodlands of Scalford Hall.
The new product will enhance classroom training and meetings at the venue by re-energising and bonding the team. Key learning outcomes include: the value of teamwork to resolve and complete tasks; improved communication and trust; and identifying different strengths within the team.
