Hamilton Park Racecourse hotel plans approved

Hamilton Park Racecourse has had plans approved for a multi-million pound hotel development on its grounds. The project will see the creation of a 118-room property on what is currently the racecourse’s main public car park. Construction is set to get underway in spring 2018, with more details to be revealed throughout the year. Vivien Currie, chief executive at Hamilton Park Racecourse, said: “We welcome today’s decision to approve our plans for a landmark £10 million hotel at Hamilton Park Racecourse. This significant investment project will bring fantastic benefit to our business and the wider economy. We have already had extremely positive feedback from our customers, sponsors and the local community and can’t wait to get on the road to delivering this fantastic new facility.”

ALHI adds Netherlands hotel to portfolio

Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI) has expanded its worldwide portfolio and Western Europe options with the addition of the Netherlands’ acclaimed Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin in Noordwijk, just outside Amsterdam. Located directly on the beach, in the picturesque province of South Holland, the five-star hotel provides stunning views of the North Sea and has won the M&IT Award for “Best Overseas Hotel” in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin becomes ALHI’s third member hotel in the Netherlands, offering 254 rooms, including 20 suites and four penthouses. Featuring its own private beach, the hotel also has 19 meeting rooms, with a total of 2,650 sqm of meeting space, for up to 1,500 guests.

Sandals Royal Barbados now open

Sandals Royal Barbados, Sandals' second property in Barbados, is now open in time for the winter season. Sandals Royal Barbados has 222 concierge and butler-level suites, bringing the company’s number of rooms on the island up to a total of 502. The new resort sees a series of firsts including Sandals’ first rooftop infinity pool complete with La Parisienne French restaurant and poolside bar, as well as the brand’s first beachfront glass infinity pool; gentlemen’s barber shop; and an entertainment pavilion featuring a four-lane bowling alley – as well as a living room and games room. The resort also debuts a 550 sqm conference facility.

The Lensbury launches new healthier snacks

The Lensbury Conference Team has announced the introduction of a new snack offering for meeting delegates. The traditional coffee stations have been given a new twist with the addition of some different choices. Full jars of luxury cookies will be on offer, as well as alternative snacks of Bombay mix, wasabi crackers and mixed seeds, which can be dispensed into small take away containers. The trend for more nutritious snacks and “brain food” to fuel conference delegates is a growing one, as outlined in a recent report from the IACC (International Association of Conference Centres) of which The Lensbury is a member.

Rome Cavalieri offers January detox package

Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts is offering a January detox package for corporate meetings. The package includes a series of healthy menus throughout the day, designed by the hotel’s executive chef to make a refreshing change from the standard sandwich and biscuits combination. It includes main meeting room rental, morning detox coffee break, buffet lunch and afternoon detox coffee break for €160 per person, excluding 10 per cent VAT. Applicable for a minimum of 15 delegates. The morning detox coffee break offers a series of extracted fresh juices, while the detox buffet lunch offers a broad array of energy boosting delights.

Voronezh Marriott opens in South Russia

Marriott Hotels, part of Marriott International, has debuted in Voronezh with the opening of Voronezh Marriott Hotel. Situated in the south of Russia on the Voronezh River, the city is recognised as an important centre of culture, science and industry in the region. John Licence, VP Premium & Select Brands Europe at Marriott International said: “The opening of Voronezh Marriott Hotel highlights our commitment to developing our portfolio in Russia." Located in the centre of Voronezh, just a short walk away from cultural attractions, Voronezh Marriott Hotel offers 221 stylish guestrooms. Situated on the eighth floor, overlooking the city skyline, the hotel’s conference and meeting facilities offer spaces suitable for a range of events. With a total floor space of 1,000 sqm, there are nine modern conference halls, which all offer panoramic windows and delightful city views. A grand ballroom, with six-metre-high ceilings and capacity for 550 guests.

Dream Palm Springs begins construction

Construction on Dream Palm Springs in California has officially started with a ground-breaking ceremony adjacent to the Palm Springs Convention Centre. The 169-room hotel is set to open in late 2019, bringing with it 30 private residences, multiple experiential dining and nightlife venues, as well as more than 900 sqm of meeting space. The $100m (£75m) development will use glass and open spaces to create unobstructed views and connections with the physical landscape. The construction will add to the driving force behind the city’s ongoing revitalisation project, which has recently seen the grand opening of the new Downtown and Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs hotel.

Santa opens new Travelodge in Newcastle

Travelodge has opened its fourth hotel in Newcastle – with a little help from Mr and Mrs Claus. The new 120-room Newcastle Quayside Travelodge with bar café and on-site car parking represents an investment of £11m for the landlord and has created 38 new jobs. It offers views of the River Tyne and the city’s famous seven bridges. The hotel is part new build and part renovation of the old BT office building and has been constructed in just 10 months - in time for Christmas trading. TO celebrate, the hotel team welcomed VIP visitors from the North Pole, Mr & Mrs Santa Claus. Newcastle Quayside Travelodge is the company’s 555th hotel and its ninth hotel in Tyne and Wear.
