Travelodge opens its £95 million flagship Travelodge Plus hotel

Travelodge has opened its £95m flagship Travelodge Plus hotel in the City of London. The budget hotel chain is also building four hotels across the capital, representing an investment value of £82m and is actively looking for a further 100 sites in London to open an hotel . London City Travelodge is the company’s largest new build hotel to date. It represents an investment of £95m for third party investors and has created 100 jobs within the city.

TOG Studios launches in London

Henry Wood House in London played host to the official launch of TOG Studios, the collaboration between content creation agency Green Rock and office space provider The Office Group. The immersive event marked the opening of the space and showcased the suite’s capabilities, as attendees presented the weather overlooking the BBC’s Broadcasting House and were treated to a VIP experience including professional headshots, make-up and a chance to take part in the event's live show. Green Rock MD Simon Green said: "It was a pleasure to celebrate the launch with 250 industry insiders and our partners The Office Group. Our guests' eyes lit up when they saw the space and we can’t wait to make their content ideas happen.”

Sofitel London Heathrow's 10 high flying years

Surinder Arora, founder and chairman of the Arora Group, met with employees of Sofitel London Heathrow to celebrate the hotel’s 10th birthday. The hotel, which is owned and operated by the Arora Group, remains the only luxury hotel directly connected to a London Heathrow airport terminal. Since opening in July 2008, the 605-room hotel has hosted more than 30,000 events in its suite of meetings and events facilities, including the 1,300-person capacity Arora Suite. General manager Ryan Nicholls said: “We have many exciting plans in the pipeline and we are looking forward to another ten years of amazing experiences.”

Westminster Venue Collection opens its doors

Four properties within the Westminster Venue Collection opened their doors to some of London's top event buyers on for a evening of food, wine and exclusive tours. Buyers from companies such as Shell, Telereal Trillium, INCA Productions, Sledge, Hearst and Hirespace were given a unique opportunity to explore four venues - The Royal Society, Prince Philip House, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace and 116 Pall Mall – while taking part in a food safari. Welcome drinks were served at The Royal Society on Carlton Terrace with guests served botanical gin cocktails and a selection of canapes from food stations on its terrace before the party moved to Prince Philip House just a few doors along.

Kimpton Hotels to open in Germany

InterContinental Hotels Group(IHG) will be bringing its rapidly expanding Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand to Germany in 2023 with the opening of Kimpton Frankfurt. Set in a listed building of Junghofstrasse in Frankfurt’s city centre, the luxury boutique hotel will feature 155 rooms, two large meeting rooms and an onsite gym. There are also plans for a sky-bar and restaurant on the roof terrace. Kimpton Frankfurt is part of Frankfurt’s pioneering development project; FOUR Frankfurt, which is led by developer Groß & Partner. FOUR Frankfurt is a unique high-rise in the middle of the central banking district which features office, residential and retail space. The mixed-use project will be home to 5,000 people for both business and residential purposes.

Conference facilities to expand at The Chester Hotel, Aberdeen

Conferences and events at Aberdeen’s only AA four star silver rated hotel are about to get even bigger as The Chester Hotel, set in Aberdeen's fashionable west end, is to undergo a major expansion, leading to increased function suite capacity.The extension of the Granite Suite, which already has its own dedicated private entrance and bar facilities, will increase maximum numbers from the current limit of 200 delegates to 320 for a conference set up.
Work on the extension plans, which represent a significant investment by The Chester Hotel, will get underway in late December 2018 and will be completed in spring. The hotel will continue to operate as normal during the construction work, but the ballroom with be closed for several months early in the new year.

Amsterdam opens high tech metro line

After 15 years of construction and an investment of 1.3 billion euros (£1.1m) Amsterdam has opened one of the most high-tech metro lines in the world. The new North/South line also makes RAI Amsterdam the most easily accessible convention centre of any metropolitan city. Line 52 uses an innovative new micro-tunnelling technology to take passengers beneath the famous Amsterdam canals and under the IJ waterway to connect the north and south of the city. There are eight stations on the 9.7-kilometre route and one of them is situated directly outside the convention centre. With up to ten underground trains an hour passing through Station Europaplein., it now takes less than ten minutes to reach Amsterdam’s ‘Central’ railway station from the RAI. Exhibitors and visitors can also easily access other bustling parts of the city from this metro stop.

Rocco Forte Hotels, Hotel Savoy, Florence has revealed the new Duomo Presidential Suite and four Grand View Suites, including the Panoramic Suite.
The Duomo Presidential Suite is one the largest suites of all of the Rocco Forte Hotels, which now occupies its own wing with views of Brunelleschi’s Cupola and Giotto’s Campanile in the very heart of Florence. The four Grand View Suites provide views over Piazza della Repubblica.
