A convention centre built inside a zoo will host next year’s Associations World Congress (AWC).

The new Flanders Meeting and Convention Center Antwerp – aka A Room with a ZOO -  will welcome several hundred association executives and industry partners to the event 12-14 March, 2018.

The venue is immediately adjacent to Antwerp’s famous 19th railway station –  a marble masterpiece and widely regarded as one of the world’s finest examples of railway architecture.

It is in the grounds of a still-functioning Antwerp Zoo, a place of animal welfare, nature conservation and science, and a founding partner of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).

Damian Hutt, AWC executive director, said: "It’s a fantastic venue. It's an excellent mix of traditional with modern; great functionality and beauty. Here with the zoo it really has got something extra!"

Anja Stas, FMCCA chief commercial officer, added: “The zoo adds an emotional narrative that truly engages the audience and enhances the meeting experience. And also, the kinship with the zoo and the Zoo Foundation means that all revenue from the event spaces goes to conservation work, offering instant corporate social responsibility to the industry and a new green dimension to our sustainability challenge. This combination of strong product benefits and emotional storytelling and purpose creates greater value to the congress and the delegates.”
