More than 200 association executives were in Vienna for the 10th edition of Associations World Congress, which saw the launch of a year-round project to highlight best practice in the sector.

The new Association Success Story Programme will create a bank of case studies from associations who have gainfully developed new products, services, or events for their members. AWC organisers

AWC organisers the Association of Association Executives (AAE) have employed a writer-researcher to work with associations to produce ‘highly detailed data and advice’ for fellow associations.

A wide range of areas will be explored, such as conference mergers and partnerships, lobbying, social media projects, elearning, event growth, and member engagement programmes.

AAE executive director, Damian Hutt, said: “This year-round Association Success Programme is hugely important to associations. They find case studies so useful for developing and creating new events, products and services. Of course they get some access to these during our events, but this new programme represents a major commitment and significant investment from the AAE in fostering the year-round exchange of best practice and new ideas. Identifying, curating and publishing critical information for membership organisations is at the heart of what we do, and I’m very pleased that with a writer joining our team, we can publish these success stories every week.”

The three-day AWC, being held at Austria Center Vienna, began with keynote speeches from Lodewijk Klootwijk , Director, European Golf Course Owners Association, on the importance of the tribe, and Sarah Sladek, CEO of XYZ University, on how associations can thrive in an era of disruption.
