Congrex Switzerland, the Basel-based professional congress organiser (PCO), starts 2018 with a new chief executive following the departure of Alain Pittet after four years.

Julia Bicher, former director of operations and Pittet’s de facto deputy, has taken the top job after Pittet’s surprise departure ‘to take on a new professional challenge.’

Both Pittet and Bircher were part of a management buyout team that took over the business following the collapse of parent company Congrex Group in October, 2013.

Bicher, 38, has spent most of her professional life in the meetings industry and has been with the company for over 12 years and has been a partner since 2013.

She said: “I will continue to transform the traditional PCO company based on logistical services to a true flourishing consultancy company in the area of association management, destination management and conference management, delivering expertise and exceptional customer service.

“We have a true vision which brings a unique, human-centred leadership approach to our company, that will further drive the potential of our people and our business”.

Pittet leaves the company after a successful 2017, in which several important multi-year contracts with new clients were signed and various long-term collaborations extended until 2023.

“I am happy to leave Congrex Switzerland in a moment where the company again occupies a leading position in the competitive European environment.”
