Where else but Vienna for psychotherapy congress

Sigmund Freud’s home town wins bid for 10th gathering

The World Congress for Psychotherapy has chosen Sigmund Freud’s home city of Vienna, for its tenth instalment in 2023.

Invited by Prof. Alfred Pritz, President of the World Council and Rector of the Sigmund Freud Private University, some 4,000 scientists and researchers will meet there from 25-29 July to discuss the latest findings in the field of psychotherapy.

The World Council for Psychotherapy was founded in the 1990s in the Austrian capital, which subsequently hosted the organization’s first World Conference in 1996. Subsequent events have been held at locations including Durban, Moscow and Paris.

“Working closely with the Vienna Convention Bureau, we were able to convince the Council’s board to host the 10th instalment of the World Conference at my university in Freud’s home city,” confirmed Prof. Pritz.

Delegates will focus on the latest trends in psychotherapy at a series of 500 lectures, seminars and workshops with 200 scientific posters giving insights into the latest advances in the use of psychotherapy to treat psychiatric disorders. For the first time, the Vienna event will feature 'Freudian walks', during which participants will discuss the latest scientific breakthroughs.
