Blackpool calls for buyer input into Winter Gardens redevelopment
Blackpool Council is hoping to challenge ‘big city’ conference and meetings offerings following its acquisition of the resort’s iconic Winter Gardens.
The city is calling for buyer input into the £5.5m redevelopment plans which aim to bring more conferences to the venue. The £40m government-backed deal also included the purchase of the Blackpool Tower, The Sea Life Centre and Louis Tussauds waxworks.
The council has appointed the Right Solution as development consultants for the Winter Gardens. Right Solution MD Sally Greenhill said: “The Blackpool Winter Gardens represent an historic part of the UK’s business tourism heritage and we are thrilled to have been appointed to input on its redevelopment. We welcome feedback from buyers on what they are looking for in the regeneration of this classic venue.”
Lancashire & Blackpool Conference & Meetings has launched a major campaign to support the redevelopment. The initiative, which will focus on the variety and diversity the area has to offer began with fire eaters, jugglers and medieval knights at a Camelot themed Venue Show at Park Hall Hotel Leisure and Conference Centre near Chorley.
The campaign, which also includes the launch of a new website and literature, will focus on further increasing delegate numbers, currently over 38,000 annually in Blackpool.
Tony Openshaw, director of marketing at Lancashire & Blackpool Conference & Meetings, said: “The Venue Show was a key element of the first phase of our cohesive campaign to showcase Lancashire & Blackpool to as wide an audience of businesses, organisations and societies as possible.
“We are delighted with the feedback we’ve received from delegates who attended. Attendees liked the diversity and variety we offer, from smaller intimate venues steeped in history, such as Stanley House, Mellor, to the major attraction of the Pleasure Beach Resort, Blackpool. It means we’re in a great position to meet all their requirements.”
