New DMC role for event agency veteran Shaun Casey

16/11/2011

Shaun Casey, the former MD of BCD Meetings & Incentives, has been appointed by TUI Travel to oversee its network of European destination management companies (DMCs).

As MICE regional director Europe, based out of the division’s HQ in Barcelona, Casey will head up DMCs including Travel Scot World in Scotland, Miltours in the Algrave, Ultramar in Spain and TUI Hellas in Greece.

Casey said: “What we’re trying to do is globalise our structure, to bring it together under three regional directors; myself in Europe and two others in Asia, as we are also part of Pacific World. We want to be much more globalised, bringing the best in class activities and hopefully growing our network.”

Casey left BCD in 2009 to launch his own consultancy business, Lameca. Prior to this he was managing director at StarCite and managing director Spain & France at Maritz Europe.

He said: “This is a big, exciting opportunity at a European level and they are few and far between in this climate, which is why I decided to take it. I have never worked for a DMC before, I’ve always been agency and it’s interesting coming from this perspective, because I’ve always been the customer. It brings an added dimension.”

Casey will be announcing his new strategy for TUI’s DMC network at the EIBTM exhibition, taking place in Barcelona at the end of the month.
