Joint venture will help South Africa 'fulfil its potential'

10/02/2012

Paragon Conventions Geneva, the Switzerland-based professional congress organiser (PCO), has handed control of its South African operations to Cape Town-based TSG Tourism Services Group in a joint venture partnership.

TSG will now run Paragon Conventions Africa, after general manage Suzette Scheepers, who had been in the post for a year, was appointed director of congresses at Paragon Conventions Geneva.

Jonathan Wildman, CEO of TSG Tourism Services Group, said the alliance would give the company a 'stronger foothold in the European market' and the opportunity 'to grow business tourism in South Africa'.

"The alliance also means that we are equipped to serve a wide range of high-profile association clients from across the globe,” he said.

Eyal Halevy, VP for business development, and partner of Paragon Conventions Geneva, added: “We are very excited about our joint venture with TSG Tourism Services Group in South Africa.  TSG brings exceptional management skills, local business experience and innovative technology. Together we will build Paragon Conventions Africa into a PCO market leader for this region.”

Weltman said TSG’s appointment would benefit the South African tourism sector more generally.

“We are confident that this alliance will continue to help South Africa to grow its potential as a competitive long-haul business tourism destination, creating much needed jobs and stimulating the local economy.”
