MPI past presidents celebrate 18 years with renewed commitment

27/04/2012

Past presidents of the UK & Ireland chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) have marked the group’s 18th birthday by launching an advisory panel to help and mentor future leaders. Former presidents of the chapter gathered for a celebratory dinner this week at the Barbican Centre, helm of the current president Samme Allen.

It was decided that the past presidents would form a panel to support the president, mentor board members, develop the nominations process and support meetings when necessary.

Those attending the event included Allen, Fiona Pelham, Anthony Hyde, Mandy Torrens, James Samuel, Paul Cook, Pete Brady, Caroline Windsor, Karen Walters and Caroline Hill.

Allen said: “The inaugural Presidents Alumni meeting on our 18th anniversary was a huge success. As chapter president, it was wonderful to be able to thank all those who have given so much to make MPI the leading meetings association in the UK & Ireland and to look for further ways to improve our member benefits with such experienced industry professionals.”

Karen Walters, president 2000-01, and director at Eventful Connections, added: “This group possess a great wealth of experience to be captured and used by the current and future Boards. We all look forward to getting involved with the chapter as a group or indeed on a one-to-one basis with board members where our past experience can be best be used.”

This is also a milestone year for MPI. The association was formed 40 years ago.
